Hi, just want you opinions about the videos lessons available on http://www.drumtechniques.com , i don't like the way the advertisement talk to us like we are stupid but the screenshots of Finger Control Technique video here http://www.fingercontroltechnique.com/ show that he seem to use Morello technique and for the first time (to my knowledge) that i see a video using palm down And using second finger as fullcrum for finger control ( generally it's french grip or palm down but with first finger as fullcrum)

Ok, I hope this is not getting too long of a post, ... and excuse my english in some parts of the post... :-)
This is MY opinion ( and opinions, as we all know, are like buttholes....everyone has one and sometimes it stinks...) .
To me that's all more scam than lessons that will help you. If you advertise something with "Yes, this is the same method used by the fastest snare drummer to set the world record for hand speed!" , that says it right there. It shows you how to be circusattraction and play fast, but not to play musical with a nice touch.
Most of the guys (NOT ALL OF THEM!!), that I see playing with finger-technique have a very harsh sound and sound to machine-like.
I like playing with mainly my wrist, moeller technique and MAYBE if have toplay really fast singles but not move all over the drumset I play fingercontrol. As you can see in the fourth picture, that says "50% speed", there is no space between the thumb and the index-finger. If you now take your stick and play it like that on the pad ( with fingercontrol)and then you play with your wrist and have a gap between your thumb and indexfinger, at least as big , so that you can put your other stick in between, you can actualy hear the difference on a simple pad. The stick resonates and the stroke sounds much fuller. With the middlefinger and thumb as fulcrum WITH 'fingercontrol' you would only have the ringfinger und pinky ( your weakest fingers) to control and move the stick. I don't know how you would be able to play very fast with that technique, especially over a longer time period.

I watched a Vinnie Video from '83 and saw that he used a lot of finger technique. Then I watched the MD Festival 2000 and put slowmotion ( 1/4x) wile vinnie was playing the crescendo 32nd notes on the snare in "I'm tweeked..." and found out, that he played everything with his wrist there. I didn't see any fingercontrol whatsoever.

I can play fast ( well...fast is relative...)with fingercontrol, or just with my wrists but I think, that just with wrist , moeller and learning to let the stick do 50% of the work through rebound, you can play as fast as with fingercontrol and TO ME it also just feels better that way.
Well, that's it from me. Talk to you guys later!

<font size="2" face="Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif">This is exactly the point i noticed on this vid and that's why i talk about that here, If he can really play fast and smooth finger control with palm down And using second finger and thumb as fumlcrum then is Interesting, because since the last Weckl DVD i Love to use second finger and thumb as fullcrum and then when i need to use finger control.... it's hard ( unless i use french grip but then the balance point of the stick is on the second finger not the first finger )

Maybe i'll give a try of this downloadable video finally

If somebody coughs up the $10 for this vid and book, let us know if it's any good or if there's any new information in it. I doubt it but....
